Description

The MKSDictionary object is the parent object that contains the DictionaryPlus ActiveX component, which is an enhanced version of the Microsoft Scripting object's Dictionary object. The DictionaryPlus component provides all of the support of the scripting Dictionary object, with addition functionality above and beyond the scripting Dictionary object. These additional features include:

• Ability to store multiple items to a single key.
• Ability to assign a ranking to each item associated with a specific key.
• Able to retrieve a key/item pair based on the rank of the item of a key.
• Ability to store the dictionary contents to a stream or XML file.
• Ability to load the dictionary from a previously saved stream or XML file.
• Items can be of any form of data.
• The key can be any data form that can be coerced to a string type.
• Provides events that fire when an item is added or removed.

Remarks

Use the ability to load and persist to a stream to read and write the dictionary object to a database.

Every value in a DictionaryPlus object is a Variant, which means you can create a DictionaryPlus object that consists of almost any kind of value (including other DictionaryPlus objects), and that you can store any combination of Variant types in the same DictionaryPlus object.

Uses for this component include

• Creation, storage, and retrieval of key/value pairs in memory.
• Property bags.
• In memory database.
